 Cool
clubs and pubs in Rome
Saturday Night Fever by
Vassilissa Carangio Ready to be amazed? Well, here in Rome everything is possible.
Nightlife starts early and ends late and if you are looking for
old fashioned style bars, loud music and cool pubs don’t
worry because Rome has it all! You should definitely start from the Trastevere area (just a
few steps away from the Tiber River), renowned for attracting
a bohemian crowd of artists and young people looking for a
good time with its eclectic mix of quality bars .( I.e. “Freni
e Frizioni” is a good place in Via del Politeama – Piazza
Trilussa – where you could find a good happy hour and
if you’re lucky, you could find famous singers; otherwise
in Via di San Francesco a Ripa there is “ Big mama” where
you can enjoy a fine performance of blues music.)
There are also a lot of good bars around Campo de Fiori and Piazza
Navona where you can sit in a cafè with a glass of italian
white wine watching life go by. Additionally, in the summer time
you can even go to the Isola Tiberina, the island in the Tiber,
which becomes full of bars, market stalls and an outdoor cinema
where people gather to enjoy the cushions and hammocks strung
along the river.
Moreover you can choose to dance in one of the clubs in Testaccio,
taking the Metro Line B and getting off at Piramide station.
One of the most well known spots is “Akab Cave”,
in Via di Monte Testaccio on 2 floors (the dance floor is located
in a cave). It has a nice courtyard, with a Japanese style garden
and the music here changes depending on the evening (black music,
electronic, or house) so there should be something for everyone.
If you want to go where the university students spend their nights
you should visit the University area of San Lorenzo and the location
of Ostiense (e.g. “Goa” in Via Libetta 13 and “Il
Barone rosso”). Over there it is full of pubs and clubs
and on Saturday night the streets are crowded by people on pub
crawls i.e. “Fiddler's Elbow, the oldest Irish pub in Rome;
Also near Termini there is the “Micca Club”, in Via
P. Micca 7/a, that offers a variety of cocktails with a music
that ranges from vintage to funky. There you can also find a
stage for live performances and a flea market on Sunday. Far
from the main center there is the Pigneto, an urban area close
to Via Casilina and Via Prenestina.
So ..start having a look around ! Come on! And as summer has
arrived you can even visit Ostia, the beach town just 20 kilometers
from Rome! You could have fun on “Faber Beach”, dancing
along the waterline and meeting a lot of people.
All of Rome deserves to be lived! Have a go and you’ll
not regret it!
